Giving Back in Northern Virginia
Reese Law has been located in Fairfax, VA, for 18 years. In that time, we have grown to know and love the many communities that make their homes in Northern Virginia. Through our work with our clients, and from personal encounters, we often learn about causes that urgently need our support. Whether volunteering or donating, we look for organizations that make the most of our contribution. We prefer to donate to places where most of the money goes to the cause, using sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar to research how funds are allocated. We also give our time to volunteer in ways that leverage our expertise. We think a personal connection is essential in our giving, and we wanted to share about some of the organizations that we’ve helped recently.
Wolf Trap Animal Rescue
Located in Merrifield, VA, Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, this nearly all-volunteer organization weekly brings animals to the area from kill shelters in Mississippi. They report that “since May 2015, Wolf Trap Animal Rescue has successfully adopted out over 5,700 dogs & puppies, and nearly 1,200 cats & kittens, for a total of over 6,900 animals currently rescued from euthanasia.” Their unique approach to fostering helps ensure that animal placements go to a forever home. There are opportunities to volunteer, donate, purchase merchandise, or look for your very own four-legged friend. In fact, Kate Reese recently adopted Lizzie into her family.
Fairfax Country Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Mediation
Custody matters can absorb some of the bitterness of the broken relationship between the adults. Fairfax County has a mediation program that helps parents and other adults reach important decisions without going to an expensive, often painful trial. The mediators in the program are state-certified volunteers with training and experience in the legal issues. And mediators have their own support system. In addition to volunteering as a mediator, Christine Hissong is a mediator mentor, offering her years of experience as a mediator to help guide and support other volunteers.
In 1990, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers established the AAML Foundation to award grants to “worthwhile charitable organizations that help families, particularly the children who are adversely affected by the breakup of the family unit.” Reese Law is proud to provide financial support to help the applicant organization do excellent work nationwide.
We periodically donate to additional organizations by collecting suggestions from the entire firm to select causes close to our hearts. Reese Law is proud to give back to the community, and we love the many ways we can contribute. Our newsletter will feature additional organizations that has received our support.
